Sivaganga border have revealed ancient settlements.
Ø Around 100
acres identified forexcavation
Ø The first phase
of excavation began in 2013 ~ 2014 ;
the second phase of excavation was carried out in 2016.
Ø Around 0.5 acres excavated
so far.
Ø Iron implements such as knives earthenware some with Prakrit
and Tamil Brahmi inscriptions ; Roman
pot shreds ; semi ~ precious stones such as Canelian beads ; brick structures ;
and a terracotta ring ~ well and terracotta figurines were excavated.

Ø K. Amarnath Ramakrishna superintending archaeologist of the excavation
branch VI Bengaluru Claims the unearthed
artefacts belong to 3 BC
Ø 3 BC corresponds to the widely
accepted date of tha Tamil Sangam Age.
Ø If the age of the artefacts are established by carbon dating it would be a breakthrough in Tamil history
and culture.
