Benefits of breast-milk
“ Pediatricians say that breast-milk is always preferable for new-born babes for atleast a year or two. Nutritional benefits of breast – milk are enormous. It is always available, easily digestible and that is what the baby requires. When mothers lactate the babies, their feelings towards the baby will be soft and sweet. That is why it has been insisted that mothers must get into the regular habit lactating the babies instead of adopting the risky method of feeding-bottle system.
Though not in such elaboration, Sangam literature invariably refers to the potency of breast feeding. The passage from Perumpanatrupadai  says that an exceptional occasions, if not the mother, a surrogate person will feed the baby with her milk. Anyway the importance of breast-milk is enforced. It helps building energy and strengthens bones of the baby. The quote from Purananooru says that when the baby sucks milk, the lactating mother will be immensely happy and pleased. Even dry breast will somehow generate sweet milk, the passage adds.” –Editor.
