                                    ”தொல்காப்பியர் ஆக்கவியல் எழுத்தியலார் கையாளும் இரு கூற்றமைப்பு முறைப்படி ஒலிக்கூறுகளைச் சிக்கனப்படுத்திச் சிறப்புக்கூறுகளை மட்டுமே கூறி  ஏனை மிகைக் கூறுகளை உய்த்துணர வைத்து ஒலியன்களை விளக்குவதன் மூலமே ஒலிகளின்  முழுவடிவத்தையும் விளக்கும் அனைத்துக்கூறுகளையும் பெறவைத்துள்ளார்.  

                       இவ்வகையில் பார்க்கும்போது சுருங்கச்சொல்லி விளங்கவைக்கும் கலையில் நன்கு கைவந்தவராகக் காணப்படுகின்றார். ஒரு காலத்தில் ஓங்கியிருந்த அறிவியற்கலை காலவெள்ளத்தால் தொடர்பற்றுப் போகவே தொல்காப்பிய நூற்பாக்களை நன்கு புரிந்துகொண்டு பொருளுணரும் ஆற்றலற்ற சூழ்நிலை நிலவி வந்தது. 

                 ஆனால் இன்று நமக்கு வளர்ந்துவரும் மொயியலறிவு துணைநிற்கின்றது. தகுந்த மொழியியற் கொள்கையைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்து அதனை அடியொற்றித் தொல்காப்பியத்தை அணுகுவோர் ஆண்டு மொழியியல் விந்தைகள் பொதிந்து கிடப்பதைக் கண்டு இன்புறுவர் என்பதில் ஐயமில்லை.
