புதுவை அரசியற் போரில் இறங்குவேன்

”” ஆசை பற்றிய தமிழின் தொண்டில்

ஒட்டிய என் உளம் வெட்டினும் பிரியாது

வெண்பா முதலிய எழுதும் என்கை

வண்ணம்பாடிக் கொண்டிருக் கும் வாய்

முப்ப தாண்டு முடியும் வரைக்கும் நான்

எழுதிய அனைத்தும் என்ன சொல்லும்?

கடவுள் இதோஎன்று மக்கட்குக் காட்டிச்

‘சுடச்சுட அவன் அருள் துய்ப்பீர்’ என்னும்

Poems of many kinds my hand would scribe

And my lips would melodies make

What did all my writings in those thirty years convey?

Manifestations of God, keenly desirous of revealing to the people,

”கல்வித் துறைச்செய லாளர்

பொய் இலா ராகிய ‘கையார்’ என்க

முப்பத் தேழாண் டலுவல் பார்த்தேன்

ஓய்வு பெற்றேன் ஊதியப் பேற்றுடன்

அலு வலில் இருந்த அத்தனை நாளிலும்

 

அறவழி தவறிய அதிகா ரிகளின்

எதிர்ப்பிலா நேரமே இல்லை. அக் கடலை

வென்று நீந்தா வேளயே இல்லை

அலுவல் கால நிலைஇது

ஆயினும்”

எனக்குச் சொல்லிக் கொடுத்தவர், புதுவைத்

திருப்புளி சாமி ஐயா செந்தமிழ்

இருப்பே என்னும் பங்காரு பத்தர்

புலவர்க்குப் புலமை ஈந்து நிலவு

பெரும்புகழ்ப் பெரியசாமிப் பிள்ளை

என்பவர் ஆவார்.

        இவர்களின் அருளினால்

பதினே ழாண்டும் பற்றா இளையேன்

நாற்பது புலவர் தேர்தலில் முதலாத்

தேர்வு பெற்றேன்.

‘இளையன் ஆதலால் அவன் அவ் விடத்தை

அடைதல் ஆகா தென்றனர்’ ஆள்வோர்.

ஆயினும் நானே அதனை அடையச்

சட்டங் காட்டித் தடைகளை நீக்கி

அன்றுஎனை நிரவி ஆசிரியன் ஆக்கினார்

Taught me Tamil Literature and Grammar.

 

By their kindness keen, before I was seventeen,

In scholastic Tamil Examinations, first I stood among forty.

 

At Niravi, in Karaikal, a  vacancy arose

For a teacher’s post. Competed many for the position

As eighteen years  young then I was, the officers there

Would n’t let me have the job .
