”கல்வித் துறைச்செய லாளர்
பொய் இலா ராகிய ‘கையார்’ என்க
முப்பத் தேழாண் டலுவல் பார்த்தேன்
ஓய்வு பெற்றேன் ஊதியப் பேற்றுடன்
அலு வலில் இருந்த அத்தனை நாளிலும்
அறவழி தவறிய அதிகா ரிகளின்
எதிர்ப்பிலா நேரமே இல்லை. அக் கடலை
வென்று நீந்தா வேளயே இல்லை
அலுவல் கால நிலைஇது
ஆயினும்”

An
honest French man called Caillard ,
Rules
in my favour cited, and me a teacher made at Niravi.
Years
seven and thirty I served,
And
with benefits of pension retired.
In
service, fierce opposition I had ever to face,
From
officers unfair
Their
resistance relentless,
I
had always to swim against
Officialdom
was at that time.”
